What Wood You Do?

Posted by on November 29, 2013

What would you do if a blight of Dutch elm disease ravaged your town’s 100-year-old elm tree population?

Here’s a quick, multiple choice quiz:

a) Would you have a giant bonfire and charge admission?

b) Would you give firewood to the residents free for a year?

c) Would you convert the stumps into benches for weary travelers?

d) Would you follow the example of the town council of Truro, Nova Scotia, and create over 20 wooden sculptures depicting the town’s heritage for tourists and townspeople alike to enjoy and admire?

Take a walk with Manny and I along the avenues of Truro and be as amazed as we were at one of the most creative and positive solutions to a disastrous problem facing a small city.
